A domain name is an address of your website, better known as a URL.
It is unique because it distinguishes your website’s name and identity from the other websites.

Make your URL something easy to remember and simply typed in by people.

It could be your name, the name of your product or a summarized name fit for your website’s purpose.

I highly discourage using numbers in your URL because when you verbally tell other people about your website, because you have to state whether it is a number or a word like www.1business.com or www.onebusiness.com.

Also, do not use complex words or vocabulary that people find it hard to spell and type. It will only give
your type in visitors a bad experience before they even get to your page.

A fully qualified domain name includes the host name, which is World Wide Web or www in front,
and the domain registrar which is the part after the dot, as in .com.

The .com is the most recommended one to use other than .net or .info because it is easily
listed or accepted in search engines and it is good for businesses. Other domain registrars
such as .org/.edu/.gov are not good for business, as they stand for organizational, educationaland government respectively.

When choosing a domain name you may want to run it past the “phone test.”

If you have ot repeat your domain name more than once over the phone with a friend, then you may
want to rethink your domain name.

ANother strategy is to use a keyword of keyword phrase as your domain name. That is a phrase that people will type into a search engine when looking for your particular product or service.

So if you’re selling “Butterfly Tattoos” then www.butterflytattoos.com may be your best bet. It will also help you get better placement on the search engines because the name IS the keyword.

If that’s not available you can try the name with a hyphen. So www.butterfly-tattoos.com

What you may also want to do, if you have a big budget, is to look for popular words and/or names to see if they are taken but available for sale.

Many times investors buy them and put them up for sale.

You can obtain cheap domain names at GoDaddy.com.

But again, if you are a beginning internet entrepreneur or a small business, choose a name you can affordand work with it.

Spend some time focusing on your domain name and it will pay off handsomely!+
